The threats for a breakaway league may have died down in Formula 1 but the volcano is far from extinct. F1, in recent years, has been on some sort of quest to make the sport more attractive, competitive and fairer. This, after all, would be the same sport that saw Lewis Hamilton pinch the world championship in the last race of the season, in the last lap… in the last corner!

A compromise needs to be made between F1 and the racing teams that represent it. A spending cap was clearly a step too far for eight teams which included fierce rivals, Ferrari and McLaren. Many teams have competed in the sport for years, even decades, to gain an edge in the sport and to see this washed away with some budget constraint seems absurd.

So here’s what I suggest: Make room for one special Grand Prix where every team is given the same set of car parts and they must assemble a working  car for that race. Make it mandatory for each car to have a charity logo on their cars and let the drivers battle it out. We also suggest the points count towards the overall championship.

Making it work would of course require rigorous planning by the FIA, but at least this way TV audiences would gain an insight into the quality of teams behind the drivers and how a Nakajima would fair against an Alonso when the margins are reduced.

The teams are unlikely to be upset as this would only be one race of its type. Formula 1, this way, would add an intriguing dimension to the sport without chipping away at the hard work of many teams.
