The Lakers have won their 4th NBA Championship in a decade, and this one might just be the best. All season long, it was Kobe or LeBron, LeBron or Kobe.
Throughout the season LeBron appeared to have the edge and was eventually given the MVP award. The truth is that there is very little to choose between the two in terms of produce, it is just a matter of style. LeBron is the aggressive, physical type, whereas Kobe is the polished, smooth type.
However, when it came to the playoffs, the Cavaliers reliance on LeBron James was exposed by Orlando Magic, and Dwight Howard aka Superman was into his first NBA Finals.
It was to be a step too far for Howard and the Magic, much like Murray beating Nadal at the US Open but then being shown up by the sublime Federer. The same could be said for the gutsy Magic beating the physical Cavs, but then being undone by the silky might of the Lakers.
The biggest story to come out of the NBA Finals was the Finals MVP award being given to Kobe Bryant, his fourth championship, but his first without Shaq who won the Finals MVP award in the first 3 triumphs.
Can Kobe now go for Michael Jordon’s six championships? You can’t forget the huge help he had from the likes of Gasol, Bynum, Odom, Ariza, and Fisher, with a team like that, they will compete for the next two or three years.
We’ll have to wait for the trading to start, because LeBron will want some back-up, and if he gets it, the rest of the NBA better watch out.
