Manchester United go into tonight’s champions league final as the envy of the football world. Wrapping up a third consecutive league title and aiming to successfully defend the champions league is an achievement without worthy accolades. Can this team be stopped?
History suggests no team is as unbreakable as they look. When Chelsea amassed 186 Premiership points in the years 2005 and 2006, a hat-trick of titles seemed inevitable. Yet the handbrakes were applied. The same can be said of an Arsenal team that went 49 Premiership games unbeaten.
At present a Liverpool side is lurking in the background. 86 points for this season is worthy of winning a Premiership title and but a few draws they would be champions. Chelsea too will have their say, the team is peppered with experienced winners who will be led by a top European manager next season. Come August who knows what Manchester City will look like and whether Arsenal will have grown a backbone.
